The JET1 passive monitors confirm Shanling's commitment to high-quality traditional Hi-Fi solutions, the segment that the company owes its initial existence to. These 2-way monitors with a rear-mounted bass reflex are equipped with a set of high-quality Air Motion tweeters and a rigid, lightweight mid-frequency driver. The speaker enclosures are made of rigid MDF and feature a fully aluminum partition with resonant damping properties. The sound quality is simply amazing.
Design
The JET1 speakers not only sound great but also look fantastic: sleek rectangular cabinets made of MDF, painted in contrasting shades, stylish removable fabric grilles with fine pores, eye-catching bronze-colored metal spikes that not only provide a special audiophile charm but also reduce feedback between the acoustic resonator and the surface, thereby allowing the speaker to "breathe" more freely.
It is also worth noting the minimal amount of various decorations, which (combined with strict forms) makes this device resemble a representative of Scandinavian minimalism, which is highly valued by designers around the world. It is important to mention the most versatile type of cable connection, presented by screw terminals (single-wiring).
Sound
The speaker system consists of two drivers: a 4.5" woofer and an AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter. The AMT tweeter from Heil was previously a prerogative of studio monitors, while multimedia speakers were typically equipped with dome-type tweeters. The AMT tweeter itself is a mechanism consisting of a folded zigzag diaphragm, the folds of which move according to the current in the voice coil, compressing and discharging the air.
The main advantages of a ribbon tweeter over dynamic, piezodynamic, and piezoelectric tweeters are its higher air pumping speed, larger effective area, and, consequently, smaller excursion of the diaphragm, which allows to eliminate dynamic compression.
In terms of sound character, the JET1 exhibits the classic Shanling acoustic concept. Overall, it offers a musically oriented delivery with tight and textured bass, soulful and informative midrange, as well as clean, detailed, and delicate highs. Moreover, it also delivers a spacious, precisely calibrated stereo image, which, however, cannot be achieved without proper speaker placement.
