Description

RØDE VideoMicro II - a professional-grade on-camera microphone. It is suitable for use in filmmaking, content creation, or simply for recording detailed and high-quality sound for videos. The microphone does not require batteries. Simply connect it to the corresponding device and press the Rec button on your camera or smartphone.

Features:

  • Designed and manufactured in Australia
  • All-metal body
  • No battery required (powered by the camera/smartphone)
  • Signal-to-noise ratio: 79 dB
  • 3.5mm TRS output for connection to cameras and other compatible mobile devices
  • On-camera shotgun microphone with supercardioid polar pattern

Compared to the first version of the RØDE VideoMicro, the new second model has even higher recording quality and lower sensitivity threshold, allowing for higher-quality sound, even when recording quiet sounds such as whispers or rustling leaves. The microphone focuses on the sound directly in front of it and reduces other ambient sounds, ensuring that the sound from your subject is isolated from background noise.

The directionality has become narrower: supercardioid instead of cardioid. The narrower directionality better rejects unwanted sounds when shooting in noisy environments: outdoors, in shopping centers, and so on. When using the microphone on-camera, this doesn't create any problems. However, if you are shooting in a studio with the microphone placed on a separate stand, you need to remember that the position of the RØDE VideoMicro II needs to be adjusted precisely.

The frequency range reproduced by this model has a lower limit of 20 Hz and an upper limit of 20,000 Hz. The microphone has a compact body measuring 80 mm in length and weighing 39 grams. The fully metal body provides good resistance to accidental impacts. The microphone comes with a set of accessories. There are two types of wind protection included: foam, for indoor shooting, and furry, for outdoor shooting. The package also includes two cables: a 3.5mm TRS cable for connecting to photo and video cameras, and a 3.5mm TRRS cable for connecting to the headphone jack of smartphones and computers.

Another feature of this model is the isolating mount, which was specifically designed by RØDE experts for this microphone. The HELIX™ mount provides vibration protection to the construction and prevents noise from appearing in recordings. The mount also has convenient cable management slots, a thread for mounting on a boom pole, and a small mount for the camera.

Additionally, the RØDE VideoMicro II has a unique noise isolation system, allowing for sound recording without interference and wind noise. This system is called the Windshield Kit and includes the wind protection cover DeadCat GO.

The microphone is intended for outdoor use, for shooting interviews, vlogs, documentaries, as well as for shooting moving videos using a bicycle, car, or drone. It doesn't have complex switches or settings and is powered by the external microphone input on the camera, without the need for any batteries, ensuring that you never miss successful shots.

Like all RØDE microphones, the VideoMicro II model is manufactured in Australia. The RØDE VideoMicro II is an excellent choice for beginners and experienced users who are looking for a high-quality and reliable on-camera microphone with a good price-quality ratio.

Package includes:

  • Microphone
  • Shock mount
  • Wind protection
  • 3.5mm TRS cable and 3.5mm TRRS cable
  • Documentation.

Microphone polar pattern

Omnidirectional, cardioid and supercardioid. It determines the sensitivity of the microphone to sound relative to the direction or angle, i.e. shows how well the microphone "hears" sound from different sides

Glossary of terms
supercardioid

The polar pattern of the microphone, which picks up the sound from the front and partially from the back.

Словарь терминов
Microphone type
condenser

A metal membrane consisting of plates (a condenser) oscillates under the influence of sound air flows converting a sound wave into an electromagnetic one.

Signal-to-noise ratio, dB

The higher signal-to-noise ratio, the clearer sound and the bigger the dynamic range provided by the system
