RME 12Mic is a 12-channel microphone preamplifier with remote network control, high-class analog-to-digital conversion, integrated AVB and MADI connectivity, and a variety of features that make it attractive for professional use. The microphone preamp input stages have no attenuators with a gain range up to 75 dB and can accept signals up to +18 dBu. All 12 XLR connectors on the front panel accept microphone and line level signals, with the first 4 also supporting high-impedance Hi-Z instrument connections.
Coaxial and optical MADI input/output are available for independent and redundant operation and can be used for cascading, combining, and converting MADI signals. Three ADAT optical outputs provide up to 24 channels of audio at a single 48 kHz sample rate or 12 output channels at a 96 kHz sample rate. For the first time, RME offers an AVB device with 2 redundant network ports. RME has implemented IEEE standards for audio signal streaming, discovery, and control, allowing full control of 12Mic devices with any AVB controller. Any signal in 12Mic can be routed and streamed over the network with fixed latency and guaranteed bandwidth, with no additional switch configuration required.
12Mic can be fully controlled remotely via a web interface over any network channel (including Wi-Fi), allowing for quick creation of gain groups, switching phantom power, and routing signals to headphones for monitoring. The integrated routing matrix allows for routing any digital signals and AVB streams, as well as routing analog inputs directly to the headphone output. In digital audio, clock frequency is a crucial factor as it establishes the correlation between audio bits and reference time. Unfortunately, clock frequency is not always stable. 12Mic offers the full version of SteadyClock FS technology for maximum jitter resistance.
