This solution offers advantages over unbalanced connections in terms of noise reduction, which is especially important when handling weak signals from a phono cartridge. Additionally, balanced connection increases the signal's amplitude, expanding the dynamic range.
At the core of the Pro-Ject Tube Box DS3 B is the RIAA correction circuit designed by the renowned audio engineer Sikora. The model features audiophile-grade components, with a durable circuit board. The balanced design includes four amplifiers, two in each channel, for positive and negative half-wave signals. To achieve optimal stereo effect and eliminate crosstalk distortion, the dual mono principle is implemented in the phono preamplifier. The device is equipped with dual triode tubes E88CC (replaceable with 6922), carefully matched for identical parameters.
Pro-Ject Tube Box DS3 B offers flexible settings conveniently controlled from the front panel. Users can adjust input capacitance, gain, and cartridge load resistance can be set to a fixed value (47 kOhms) or smoothly adjusted from 10 Ohms to 1 kOhm using a potentiometer. This adjustment can be made while listening, aiming for the best sound quality for MC cartridges. The model also features a switchable subsonic filter to eliminate resonances in the system.
The phono preamplifier is equipped with balanced XLR and 5-pin mini-XLR inputs, as well as unbalanced RCA inputs. Inputs can be switched using a button on the front panel, allowing for the connection of two turntables to the Pro-Ject Tube Box DS3 B simultaneously. Outputs are available on XLR (balanced) and RCA (unbalanced), and operate simultaneously. The device is powered by an external switching power supply, which can be upgraded to a branded linear power source (sold separately) for improved sound quality.
