The Pro-Ject RPM 5 Carbon turntable, replacing the RPM 5.1 model, occupies a middle position in the company's RPM line of vinyl record players.
The turntable comes with a 9-inch Pro-Ject 9cc Evolution tonearm with a conical carbon tube, which forms a single unit with the shell and effectively resists resonances. The counterweight has reliable damping due to the use of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). Height adjustment, as well as VTA and azimuth angle adjustment (by rotating the tonearm tube, which is fixed with a single bolt) are available.
The vibration-resistant and resonance-free chassis of the turntable includes a new inverted bearing with a stainless steel shaft and a ceramic ball. This ensures the required smoothness of operation and reduces mechanical noise levels. The table of the model has a droplet shape and is equipped with three adjustable aluminum cone feet designed to decouple from the supporting surface. A flat mini-stand is installed under each foot. The top of the table has an attractive glossy finish, under which there is a carbon fiber coating.
An acoustically inert 300mm acrylic platter is driven by a belt on a pulley completely decoupled from the synchronous motor housing. The high-precision motor operates smoothly and uses an AC generator. A separate power adapter is used to power it. This results in a more stable rotation speed of the disc. Speeds of 33.3 and 45 RPM are supported, and switching between them is done manually by moving the belt from one pulley to the other.
