The Pro-Ject RPM 3 Carbon turntable is designed with a standout 10-inch S-shaped tonearm as its main feature. The tonearm is made using a complex three-step technological process, incorporating carbon fiber, aluminum, and a special resin in its multi-layer structure. The tonearm tube is heat treated under high temperature and pressure, effectively relieving internal stresses and resonances, resulting in effective damping. This tonearm is suitable for mounting both MM and MC cartridges, although MC cartridges are more sensitive to external vibrations.
The Pro-Ject RPM 3 Carbon has a narrow chassis on which the tonearm and the inverted bearing for the platter are mounted. The bearing ball is made of ceramic, and the center of gravity of the entire construction is carefully chosen to maximize stability. The AC motor is powered by a precision generator connected to a DC power source, ensuring low levels of interference and vibrations, while maintaining a stable rotational speed for the platter. The turntable platter is made of balanced MDF with a vinyl layer used as a mat. The platter is driven by a belt, which can be shifted between pulley diameters on the motor shaft to switch between rotational speeds of 33 or 45 rpm.
The Pro-Ject RPM 3 Carbon turntable also features convenient magnetic antiskating and a dampened TPE counterweight, both reducing the vibration level induced on the tonearm and the cartridge.
