The Pro-Ject Phono Box DC Uni built with excellent quality and can accept both types of phono cartridges (moving coil or moving magnet), which is not so common among inexpensive models. The miniature metal case with a square base (103x103 mm) is equipped with a minimalistic-style front aluminum panel, which does not have any controls. In the lower left corner of the facade there is a drawing with the company logo and device markings.

The power supply, which consumes less than 1 W in standby mode, is placed in a separate housing in order to eliminate the influence of various interferences. On the back side there is a minimal connection kit for connecting the Pro-Ject Phono Box DC to a turntable and amplifier: input and line output using high-quality gold-plated RCA connectors. There is also a socket for connecting a power supply (18 Volts), a grounding terminal and a button for selecting the required amplification mode corresponding to MM or MC cartridges.
The general topology of the circuits was made according to the “dual mono” principle. This helps to achieve the best channel separation and reduce distortion caused by the mutual influence of their circuits on each other. Instead of the previously used JRC 4580D operational amplifiers, the phono stage uses new JRC 2068D chips. As a result, its characteristics have improved somewhat. The device provides highly accurate RIAA correction, which promotes correct tonal balance. The output stage has ultra-low resistance. The version with the DC index in the name is equipped with a new and improved power supply.
One of the best features of the Pro-Ject Phono Box DC is its musicality, which is rare in such entry-level devices. It provide the smooth nature and openness of the sound presentation, the low level of distortion, as well as the ability of this device to build a wide stage with the precise location of images in space. The model will be an excellent solution for those Hi-Fi lovers whose amplifiers do not have a built-in phono stage.
