The Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ preamplifier-correction is designed to work with both MM and MC cartridges. The device is built according to the scheme developed by the company's founder - Dr. Sikora for the Phono Box S model, but with the use of high-quality components.
The device is housed in a metal case with a thick aluminum front panel that effectively protects the sensitive electronics from external electrical interference and mechanical impact. The front panel finish of the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ can be black or silver. The RCA input and output connectors have gold-plated contact surfaces.
The phono preamp has quite a wide range of adjustment possibilities for the type of cartridge being used, and this is done through buttons and a display on the front panel. This is much more convenient than using tiny switches or jumpers, and all set parameters can be easily monitored. The circuit parameters are changed using miniature precision relays located next to the other components on the device board, which ensures minimal induced noise levels. The Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ circuit is designed as a dual mono circuit using precision SMD (surface mount) components - to minimize the length of audio signal transmission chains.
To protect the audio system from subsonic noise, the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ has a switchable low cut filter with a slope of 12 dB, operating at frequencies below 20 Hz. The device is powered by an external DC power supply unit, which completely eliminates possible interference with the amplifier circuit.
