The Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ preamplifier and corrector is designed to work with both MM and MC cartridges. The device is built according to a scheme developed by the company's founder, Dr. Sikora, for the Phono Box S model, but using high-quality components.
The unit is housed in a metal chassis with a thick aluminum front panel, providing reliable protection for the sensitive electronics from external electrical interferences and mechanical impacts. The front panel of the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ can be black or silver. The RCA input and output connectors feature gold-plated contact surfaces.
This phono stage offers quite extensive adjustment options for different types of cartridges, which can be easily configured using the buttons and display on the front panel. This is much more convenient than dealing with tiny switches or jumpers, and all settings can be easily monitored. The circuit adjustments are made using miniature precision relays located near other components on the device's board, ensuring minimal noise interference. The Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ circuit is designed with dual-mono architecture using precision SMD (surface-mount) components to minimize audio signal path length.
To protect the audio system from infrasonic noise, the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS+ includes a switchable filter with a 12 dB/octave slope, working below 20 Hz. The device is powered by an external DC power supply, which eliminates any potential interferences from affecting the amplifier circuit.
