The Primare I15 Prisma MK2 amplifier is part of a new line of compact components with a slightly different philosophy when it comes to building audio systems. Formally, it is a stereo amplifier with 60 watts per channel. It has received recognition from the EISA association as an amplifier. In reality, it is an all-in-one device that only requires speakers to create a complete system, and compact speakers are not necessary.
Features
- ESS Sabre ES9028Q2M DAC
- File formats: WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, DSD64, DSD128, AAC, MP3, OGG, WMA, M4A

MK2 Version Improvements
The main improvement is the frequency rate conversion chip. The replacement of the chip allows for playback of the MQA format, which was not supported in the original version. For all DACs supporting the 24/192 kHz format, native playback should be set to 24/192 kHz to get the widest possible bit-perfect playback capabilities.
The updated version has a modified circuit with an SRC chip. As an additional option, DoP output (DSD over PCM) is supported when using Roon Ready. Primare added support for Tidal Connect, giving all owners of both the original Primare I15 Prisma and the Primare I15 Prisma MK2 access to Tidal Master files (MQA-based format).
Prisma Technology
The advanced features of this amplifier are made possible by Primare's proprietary Prisma technology - special software that combines the functions of a streamer and Google Chromecast. The amplifier connects to the local network (preferably wired, but also possible through Wi-Fi) and through an app on an iPad or Android tablet (coming soon for smartphones) connects to any smart speaker supporting Google Assistant - for example, a budget-friendly Google Home. By doing so, you can control all the basic functions of the amplifier using voice commands.
This integration with a smart speaker is not exclusive - multiple devices can be connected to smart speakers for control. Therefore, to control the amplifier, the word "Primare" should be added before each voice command. Thanks to Prisma technology, the amplifier functions as a very versatile streamer, supporting many streaming services including Spotify and Tidal, working with any internet radio, and serving as a Roon client.
Playback Capabilities
The amplifier is also versatile in playing already downloaded files. From USB flash drives and discs, it plays everything except DSD256 files, which can be played through different means such as Roon or another player on a computer connected to the same network as the Primare I15 Prisma. However, USB is not the most current method of file delivery, so this port is placed on the rear panel along with other connectors.
The main method, of course, is through a network connection to a local server. By connecting through UPnP to a shared disk or folder, only folders with files will be displayed in the app. Search by names, artists, or albums will not work in this case. Using a DLNA client on a server or computer will provide access to all mentioned features, including displaying album covers on the tablet screen regardless of whether they are in the tags or not. The company promises that after a software update, additional information about the artist and album will also be loaded. In this case, full voice control through a smart speaker will be available.
If playing music from a computer with Roon installed, the experience will be even better. Information and loaded images (in addition to album covers) will be available right away, and the sound quality on complex files will be enhanced. Of course, there will be no format limitations at all. For the user, the listening process using this method is not different from using the standard app, except for the design on the screen and additional features that appear. Simply choose the Roon app on the tablet, and everything will be automatically synchronized.
This is the beauty of the Primare I15 Prisma - the most advanced network capabilities combined with sound quality that is typically inaccessible to these devices by definition. Importantly, the increase in sound quality here applies not only to music files or streaming but to everything that can be connected to this device. It's not just a player; it's an amplifier. It has plenty of inputs, both analog and digital, to suit any preference. You can connect a computer directly via USB Type B or a disc player via coaxial - this is standard.
The Primare I15 Prisma amplifier is an excellent choice for those who want to delve into the world of good sound right away, without giving up the conveniences offered by modern wireless and network technologies. It has everything needed to set up a stereo system and even more capabilities than other amplifiers with built-in streamers.
