The Ortofon Quintet Mono cartridge is the only monophonic model in the MC Quintet series.
Housing
The white housing of the Ortofon Quintet Mono model is made of thermoplastic material - ABS plastic, which consists of acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. Its main properties are lightness, impact resistance, and scratch resistance. The housing has an integrated aluminum frame with two threaded holes for screws 5 or 7 mm long, which are used to attach the cartridge to the tonearm shell.
The construction uses neodymium magnets, and a silver conductor (99.99%) is used for coil winding. The low internal impedance of the cartridge makes it less sensitive to load, significantly expanding the list of compatible phono preamps and step-up transformers.
Diamond Needle
The Ortofon Quintet Mono cartridge is equipped with a diamond needle with an elliptical profile, which ensures high sound quality when playing mono records. The model also excels in accurately tracking tracks damaged and worn vinyl records, providing an extremely low noise level in the process.
This cartridge has a unified output, allowing for the same signal from each pair of pole terminals. This solution eliminates the need for additional equipment for playing mono records in stereo systems.
Output Voltage
The output voltage of the Ortofon Quintet Mono is only 0.3 mV. The model has a fairly wide frequency range and is rightfully considered one of the best mono cartridges in the company's lineup. The geometry of its housing and a well-visible needle holder (thanks to a cutout in the bottom of the façade) help ensure easy and quick setup.
