Original – often imitated, but never duplicated
Presented in 1960, the U 67 was the main workhorse in music studios for many years. Today, its unparalleled smooth sound continues to be in high demand like never before. Now, for the first time in many decades, the legendary tube microphone Neumann has returned to production according to the original drawings. The Return of a Legend Presented as the successor to the outstanding Neumann U 47, a lesser microphone might have failed, but the U 67 was quickly embraced as a new studio standard, offering many advantages over its predecessor. With a choice of three switchable polar patterns and an improved tube circuit, including tone controls for mid and low frequencies, the Neumann U 67 was well equipped for virtually any recording task. And today it remains the same: many top sound engineers choose the U 67 for its unique sound due to its versatility and unmatched sound quality.
Best Engineering Feats
The Neumann U 67 was the first microphone with the famous K 67 capsule, which has since become associated with the "Neumann sound" and continues to be used in its successor - the U 87 A. Equally important is the powerful tube circuit of the U 67 with an intelligent tube noise reduction scheme. The U 67 was also the first microphone to be used with modern recording techniques, such as close-miking. Its switchable low-frequency filter compensates for the proximity effect. The U 67 can handle high sound pressure levels up to 124 dB without distortion (and much more if you don't mind some slight tube artifacts). Its sound and technical features are timeless, as is its appearance. The conical body of the U 67 and the tapered basket have become symbols of the Neumann brand; the same elegant design adorned its successor, the U 87, for over 50 years.
Usage
The U 67 is a versatile studio microphone suitable for all applications. Its smooth top end makes the U 67 an outstanding vocal microphone. Due to its linear characteristics in three polar patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-8; the U 67 is also a highly versatile microphone for all kinds of instruments, such as strings, woodwind and brass instruments, piano, drums, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, and double bass.
