The TLM 107 is a modern studio microphone that combines classic proportions with a fresh and attractive style. It embodies Neumann's philosophy of "innovation based on tradition" by adhering to high standards while introducing new ideas. This microphone offers a wide range of functionality and highly accurate reproduction, capturing sound very close to the original source. It is a versatile tool that allows for maximum freedom in mixing and post-production.
Neumann Technology: The TLM 107 features the latest sound sensor technology, which ensures exceptional impulse accuracy. Unlike other large-diaphragm microphones, it offers five directional characteristics - omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8, wide-angle cardioid, and hypercardioid. This allows for optimal sound quality across the entire frequency range. The TLM 107 provides balanced and linear reproduction up to 8 kHz, with a slight increase in high frequencies that adds a natural and fresh quality to the recorded voice.
Special attention has been given to the natural reproduction of speech sounds, especially the critical "s" sound. The acoustic grille is designed to minimize sensitivity to sharp sounds. The sound transducer is edge loaded and both diaphragms are grounded, reducing sensitivity to dust and moisture. The microphone's transformerless circuit ensures high linearity and a wide dynamic range. Its own noise is barely audible at 10 dBA, while it can handle a maximum sound pressure level of 141 dB SPL, which can be increased to 153 dB SPL with the pre-attenuator (Pad), allowing it to capture even the loudest instruments without distortion.
The TLM 107 has linear settings for Low Cut at 40 Hz and 100 Hz, specifically designed for various recording situations. The 40 Hz setting reduces noise below the range of fundamental tones, while the 100 Hz setting is optimized for speech and vocals. A pioneering control concept allows all adjustable microphone functions to be intuitively adjusted using a navigation switch. The backlit display with a chrome bezel shows the current mode, while LEDs indicate the status of the Pad and Low Cut settings.
To minimize distractions, the switch and display are located on the back of the microphone. The TLM 107 provides clean, natural reproduction of the human voice with excellent transient response. It is suitable for various applications, including vocal and speech recording with enhanced sibilance processing, as well as orchestral recordings, spot microphones for string, woodwind, and brass instruments, recording high sound pressure levels, broadcasting, and professional sound recording studios.
