Description

The Neumann TLM 103 is a studio condenser microphone that belongs to the TLM microphone range. These microphones are designed with a transformerless circuit to minimize noise levels and provide excellent response to transients. They also have a high output signal level, eliminating the need for a preamplifier, and offer exceptional linearity in frequency response even at low signal levels.

The TLM technology used in these microphones removes the reliance on magnetization of the core. Additionally, the TLM 103 features a large diaphragm, which is a common characteristic of most Neumann studio microphones. This large diaphragm allows for distortion-free recording of high sound pressure levels.

All TLM microphones are compatible with standard 48-volt phantom power, which is typical for condenser microphones. The TLM 103 specifically is a condenser microphone with a large diaphragm and a cardioid polar pattern. Its capsule design is based on the U 47 microphone. Despite its affordable price, the TLM 103 is the top-selling large-diaphragm microphone due to its sound quality that rivals more expensive options.

This microphone is ideal for recording vocals and broadcasting, but it can also be successfully used for capturing various instruments including strings, brass, percussion, guitar amplifiers, and even entire drum kits.

These microphones are very sensitive. They require an external power supply and are hung up to ceiling

Impedance, Ohms

No higher than 32 Ohms for smartphone headphones. When using a good player or amplifier, it can be up to 100 Ohms. For stationary models you should coordinate the impedance with the amplifier power

Microphone polar pattern

Omnidirectional, cardioid and supercardioid. It determines the sensitivity of the microphone to sound relative to the direction or angle, i.e. shows how well the microphone "hears" sound from different sides

Glossary of terms
cardioid

The polar pattern of the microphone that picks up the sound in front of it.

Словарь терминов
Microphone type
condenser

A metal membrane consisting of plates (a condenser) oscillates under the influence of sound air flows converting a sound wave into an electromagnetic one.

Signal-to-noise ratio, dB

The higher signal-to-noise ratio, the clearer sound and the bigger the dynamic range provided by the system
