The Neumann MA 1 automatic monitor alignment system ensures the best possible sound quality in any room, from home studios to professional control rooms. Your acoustic environment is analyzed using a calibrated measurement microphone in a controlled process. The advanced calibration algorithms were developed in collaboration with the leading sound processing institute, Fraunhofer IIS. They guarantee optimally adapted amplitude and phase correction for accurate and reliable monitoring.
The Neumann automatic alignment is a special tool for KH 80 DSP stereo systems with or without the KH 750 DSP subwoofer, as well as two KH monitors without DSP connected to the analog outputs of the KH 750 DSP subwoofer. Unlike ordinary acoustic correction programs, this integrated solution with new algorithms is specifically designed for Neumann studio monitors. No additional modules or special audio drivers are needed as the data is processed and stored in the monitors' own DSP chips. As a unique advantage, the program optimizes both the amplitude characteristics and phase, resulting in the highest accuracy in tonality and impulse reproduction.
How does it work?
In the controlled process, acoustic data about the listening environment is collected. No special acoustic knowledge is required. Simply connect the Neumann monitors to the audio interface outputs or monitor controller. In addition, the KH monitors with built-in DSP should also be connected to the Ethernet port of your computer. A standard Ethernet switch will suffice for multiple connections.
Now, connect the measurement microphone to the microphone input. This microphone was specially designed for this software and individually calibrated with its help. The program will guide you through the measurement process.
Based on the measurement data, the program determines the acoustic properties of the room. Individual correction parameters are generated according to the target curve for the specific room, calculated with the help of the software. Neumann's many years of experience in calibrating monitoring systems in control rooms are incorporated into this process. Of course, you can adjust the target curve according to your needs.
Furthermore, the setup process ensures optimal low-frequency summing when using a subwoofer.
All resulting correction parameters are saved and processed on the monitors equipped with DSP. So there's no need to worry about plugins, driver issues, or additional cables. After completing the alignment process, Ethernet connection is no longer required.
Together with the KH 750 DSP subwoofer, the analog monitor system from the KH series can also be used with the automatic alignment software. The KH 750 DSP has sufficient computational power to optimize the entire system, including two analog monitors connected to its outputs. Additionally, the KH 120, KH 310, and KH 420 monitors benefit from phase linearization in their built-in crossover filters! The result is increased clarity, defined bass, and more accurate representation of reverberation and acoustic space in terms of timing.
What's next?
The Neumann MA 1 automatic calibration and alignment system opens a new era in monitoring technology. The unique MA 1 offers the opportunity to instantly tune optimal sound in any room and achieve the highest sound quality for Neumann stereo systems. The company's engineers continue to improve the system, and as future software updates are released, its capabilities will also expand.
