Neumann KH 80 DSP Active Nearfield Monitor
The Neumann KH 80 DSP is an active nearfield monitor. This model stands out for its compact size and is designed for use in recording studios, video editing, radio stations, as well as for home use. The monitor is perfect for music production and mixing, audio playback, and works well as a reference sound system, as it has a maximally flat frequency response and several functions that allow for optimal sound adjustment to the room conditions.
Features:
- Studio-grade active nearfield monitor
- 4-inch composite fiberglass woofer, 1-inch tweeter with fabric dome
- Class D amplifiers, total maximum power of 190 Watts
- Maximum sound pressure level of 108.8 dB
- Frequency range of 57 Hz - 21 kHz
- Maximally linear frequency response
- Acoustical Control function for adjusting the lower midrange
- Balanced input on Combo Jack/XLR connector
- Remote control via Neumann.Control software
- Composite polycarbonate enclosure with front ported phase inverter
The device is equipped with two separate Class D amplifiers, providing a maximum output power of 120 Watts in the low-frequency range and 70 Watts in the high-frequency range. Sound reproduction is carried out by a 4-inch composite fiberglass woofer with long excursion and a magnetic shield, using the Extremely Linear Force Factor (ELFF) technology for the most linear frequency response, as well as a 1-inch tweeter with a fabric dome, loaded on an elliptical waveguide Mathematically Modelled Dispersion (MMD), which ensures uniform and wide sound coverage. These drivers are capable of reproducing audio signals in the range of 57 Hz to 21 kHz with a level of +/-3 dB. The crossover is set at a frequency of 1.8 kHz and uses 6th order filters with a cutoff slope of 48 dB per octave. The maximum sound pressure level can reach 108.8 dB, and the maximum output level can be set to 94, 100, 108, or 114 dB. The built-in DSP processor offers the Acoustical Control technology with four presets for adjusting the lower midrange, allowing for eliminating overly boomy and indistinct sound. The input sensitivity can be adjusted in the range of 0 to -15 dB.
For connecting an audio source, there is a balanced input on the Combo Jack/XLR connector. An RJ45 port is provided for remote control of the device via the Neumann.Control program, available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android platforms. It allows for configuring the functionality of the DSP processor, which offers an equalizer, delay of up to 70 ms, limiter, and other functions for sound optimization, as well as performing monitor calibration. The enclosure is made of composite polycarbonate and is equipped with front ports of the phase inverter, while each of the drivers is protected by a metal grille. There are two M6 threaded holes, providing additional options for efficient speaker placement. Power is supplied through the mains.
The Neumann KH 80 DSP A G is a professional studio monitor with excellent technical characteristics, intelligently designed drivers, and a sturdy, optimized construction that can fit into almost any workspace. Despite its small size, the device has a very decent output power and can sound truly loud, while maintaining clarity and intelligibility. This model is ideal for monitoring, mixing, and mastering, thanks to its truly flat frequency response, wide frequency range, and DSP processor capabilities.
