The Neumann KH 120 A G is the first Neumann studio monitor to be released after the extensive rebranding and redesign of the Klein + Hummel line. This active monitor is based on the original O 100 studio monitor. The new KH 120 A has been reworked to incorporate the latest acoustic and electronic modeling and measurement technologies. The monitor provides the most accurate sound reproduction and is equipped with a Mathematically Modeled Dispersion waveguide, flexible acoustic control, Class A-B analog amplifiers, and an analog input. Wall mounting is possible. The manufacturer notes that all of these features provide maximum flexibility in various acoustic conditions, regardless of the equipment source and physical placement.
The Neumann KH 120 A G features a long-throw 130 mm (5.25") woofer and a 25 mm (1") tweeter with a titanium dome. There are two front-firing port phase inverters, and the rear side features radiator fins. All the main control elements are also located there. The XLR input for the source is hidden at the bottom of the speaker, next to which is a block of four DIP switches that control the logo backlight and other functions. At the top, there is the ACOUSTICAL CONTROLS switch block, which controls the amplification and attenuation of three frequency ranges - lower, upper, and middle. Each of these is used in specific situations; for example, the BASS switch is used to compensate for forced low-frequency amplification when the speaker is placed near a wall. Next, there is the OUTPUT LEVEL switch, which controls the maximum sound pressure level at a distance of 1 meter and can be set from 94 to 114 dB. Finally, there is the INPUT GAIN knob, which controls the input signal level. On the rear panel, there are also mounting holes - if you want to hang the monitor on a wall or stand.
The Neumann KH 120 A is housed in a compact aluminum enclosure with magnetic shielding. This sturdy construction minimizes resonances, improves heat dissipation, and prolongs the lifespan. The wide horizontal dispersion provides more freedom, while the narrow vertical dispersion reduces reflections from the mixing console. This is further enhanced by the cast front panel.
