The NAD M28 is the latest model of a seven-channel Class D power amplifier, replacing the existing NAD M27. The new amplifier looks identical to its predecessor but differs significantly in internal construction. The M28 combines NAD's hybrid digital (Class D) technology with Purifi Eigentakt amplifier technology, resulting in a more refined sound with an extended dynamic range and higher output power.
The power of the new amplifier has significantly increased, with NAD claiming the M28 can deliver up to 200W/8 ohms per channel when all seven channels are used, and a dynamic (peak) rating of up to 320W. Connect 4-ohm speakers to the NAD M28, and it will deliver 340W to each of the seven channels simultaneously.
The NAD M28 looks identical to the earlier NAD M27, showcasing stunning industrial design for this class of equipment. The metal enclosure features an elegant matte finish, with ventilation slots on the top panel (even Class D amplifiers produce some heat). The amplifier is equipped with four pointed feet, and magnetic pads are included to place under the feet if you choose to install the NAD M28 on a delicate surface. The front panel of the amplifier is minimalist and elegant, with a simple black finish and a backlit NAD logo that changes color from white (operating mode) to yellow (standby mode) and red in case of protection triggering due to a short circuit in the load. Instead of a typical power button, a touch sensor on the top of the front panel is used to turn the unit on/off.
When using the NAD M28 with an AV processor, simply use the 12V trigger input, eliminating the need to manually turn the amplifier on/off. The NAD M28 has compact dimensions of 435 x 156 x 380 mm (W x H x D) but weighs a substantial 21.2 kg. For connectivity, the NAD M28 features seven RCA inputs and seven balanced XLR inputs. Connection selection is made using toggle switches, with miniature LEDs indicating the mode for each channel. Under normal operating conditions, they should be green, turning red if overheating occurs. Each channel of the amplifier is equipped with gold-plated output screw terminals. Additionally, on the rear panel, there is a trigger input, a button to control the brightness of the NAD logo illumination, and a power switch.
The NAD M28 is a well-designed and aesthetically pleasing amplifier that demonstrates the capabilities of modern Class D equipment. The Purifi Eigentakt technology provides clean and transparent sound energy transmitted with high precision. This amplifier is incredibly detailed, with a wide dynamic range and more output power than you may need.
