The NAD C588 is an updated version of the discontinued C556 turntable. This model features a belt-drive system and a 9-inch tonearm. The player allows for adjustment of vertical tracking angle and azimuth. It is compatible with both 33.3 and 45 RPM records. The turntable has a 10mm glass platter covered with a felt mat, an MDF base standing on rubber feet, and a protective cover included.
The glass platter weighs 1740g and is made of polished glass. It sits on a plastic sub-platter and is covered by a felt mat. There is a flat belt that transfers rotation from a precision aluminum pulley mounted on the motor shaft. The turntable features a synchronous AC motor that is completely isolated from the power grid. The turntable chassis is made of Perspex and securely attaches to the main body. The MDF base sits on four floating rubber feet with felt pads for excellent damping.
The non-inverted bearing of the C588 features a bronze cup with a hardened steel pulley. Despite the simplicity of the design, the construction quality and precision of the surfaces are impressive. The 9-inch aluminum tonearm is fully adjustable for tracking force, VTA, azimuth, and anti-skating. The included accessories for adjustments and maintenance ensure optimal performance.
The Ortofon 2M-Red moving magnet cartridge delivers a dynamic and detailed sound. The elliptical stylus ensures precise tracking and minimal record wear. The cartridge offers an extended frequency response and low distortion levels, making it ideal for modern electronic music. This cartridge is a great choice for mid-range turntable models.
