The NAD C 298 power amplifier is housed in a metal casing, with internal component arrangement that allows for free airflow without the need for forced cooling. The NAD C 298 features balanced inputs (as well as standard RCA connectors). The amplifier allows for switching between balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA inputs, equipped with automatic input signal detection with selectable thresholds. Additionally, a line output (RCA only) is provided for connecting additional amplifiers or an active subwoofer. For use in multi-component setups, the grounding terminal on the NAD C 298 is a useful feature.
The NAD C 298 is powered by efficient circuits based on switching power supplies. The amplifier is equipped with Eigentakt modules produced by NAD under license from the Danish company Purifi. The Purifi Eigentakt technology enables a power output of 185 watts per channel with connected speakers at 8 ohms (for 4-ohm speakers, the amplifier outputs 340 watts, and in peak - over 570 watts). Each channel of the NAD C 298 is powered by its own rectifier, equipped with large-capacity filtering capacitors. These capacitors have shortened charge/discharge times, which is crucial for accurate reproduction of dynamic musical passages. The amplifier's output stages feature high-current bipolar transistors arranged in parallel and selected for precise matching of operational characteristics. The printed circuit boards of both channels have identical topologies and increased thickness of metallization, with minimal signal transmission chain lengths. Overall, the amplifier's design reflects NAD's ideology of eliminating any factors that could negatively impact sound quality.
A slide switch on the rear panel of the amplifier switches the C 298 to bridged mode. In this configuration, with an 8-ohm speaker, the power output of the resulting monoblock can reach 620 watts. Designed for multiple stereo systems, the NAD C 268 can be used in various scenarios, including traditional connection with a preamplifier or for bi-amping your favorite speakers.
