The Moondrop FreeDSP offers users an interchangeable cable for in-ear headphones with a built-in DSP processor and USB-C interface. The device processes digital audio signals with parameters up to 32-bit/384 kHz, simultaneously performing the functions of a digital-to-analog converter and amplifier. This technical solution eliminates the need for external audio devices, maintaining the compactness of a typical headphone cable.
Features:
- Construction: The conductor uses a combination of oxygen-free copper and silver-plated conductors using Litz technology
- Connectors: Metal 2-pin connectors with a diameter of 0.78 mm
- Cable Coating: Moisture-resistant PVC, increasing the durability of the cable
- Control Module: Three-button with a built-in microphone for phone calls
- Processing: The device processes digital audio signals with parameters up to 32-bit/384 kHz
The product uses high-quality materials in the conductor construction - a combination of oxygen-free copper and silver-plated conductors using Litz technology. Metal 2-pin connectors with a diameter of 0.78 mm provide a reliable connection to headphones, and the moisture-resistant PVC coating increases the cable's durability. The three-button control module includes a built-in microphone for phone calls.
The FreeDSP software contains a 10-band equalizer covering a frequency range from 40 Hz to 10 kHz with 1 dB step adjustment. Android users can create and share sound profiles through the Moondrop Link 2.0 app. The automatic recognition function of connected headphones applies preset profiles without additional actions.
Technical measurements demonstrate impressive characteristics: the total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) is 0.0008%, the dynamic range reaches 114.9 dB, the noise level does not exceed 3.8 uV in the range of 20-20 kHz, and intermodulation distortion is at -96.2 dB.
Device limitations include the lack of shelf filters, the inability to adjust with less than a 1 dB step, and the lack of pre-amplification function, which can cause clipping with significant positive correction. FreeDSP supports Android and iOS devices with USB-C, however, the equalizer functionality is only available on the Android platform due to the absence of an iOS version of the application.
