Magnat Signature 703
The Magnat Signature 703 is the next model in the lineup of Magnat Signature 700 acoustic systems. The high-frequency section immediately catches the eye - it houses two speakers.
Features:
- Hi-Resolution certification, dual tweeter with fmax technology;
- Bass-midrange drivers with cast baskets and aluminum and ceramic diaphragms;
- 3-way design with rear-firing bass reflex port;
- Optimization using Klippel laser equipment;
- Ventilated voice coil for stable operation at any volume;
- Special supports in the bottom part of the speaker.
The speakers are designed in a three-way scheme, but quite cleverly. Below 2800 Hz, there is a dedicated long-excursion midrange/woofer FE-Dynamics driver with a reinforced paper diaphragm. Its 170 mm diameter ensures operation from 31 Hz - perhaps a record for speakers of this size and cost. From 2800 to 17500 Hz, a 30 mm soft dome Fmax tweeter works (with an unusually long stroke, drastically expanding the directivity pattern), and even higher (from 17500 to 53000 Hz), it is supported by a 19 mm super tweeter Fmax. All drivers feature construction optimized using Klippel equipment and software: very powerful neodymium magnetic systems, ventilated voice coils, and cast baskets. The crossovers are amplitude and phase optimized with a fourth-order filter with a 24 dB per octave slope.
As a result, the phase-inverted system covers a range from 31 to 54000 Hz and has a sensitivity of 91 dB with a nominal impedance from 4 to 8 ohms. The Magnat Signature 703 can handle up to 110 watts of power (peaking at 180 watts), and a recommended amplifier should output at least 30 watts per channel (single-ended tubes are not suitable here). The speakers' very wide directivity pattern and unusually high upper frequency limit allowed them to receive the prestigious Hi-Res Seal certification from the Japan Audio Society.
The Magnat Signature 703 speakers come in sturdy cabinets measuring 210 x 372 x 305 mm; each speaker weighs 7.7 kg. The front panel has a special design to improve dispersion and reduce resonances. For the cabinet assembly, rigid E1-MDF boards were used, Airflex ports mounted in the upper part of the rear walls of the cabinets aimed at minimizing vortex flows. Built-in rubber supports serve as additional isolation from the mounting surface - however, these speakers are best placed on special stands and isolated from them using spikes. The removable grills, terminals for connection (Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping) are of high quality, large-sized with gold plating.
