Magnat Signature 703
Magnat Signature 703 is another model in the lineup of Magnat Signature 700 speakers. The first thing that catches your eye is the high-frequency section, which houses two drivers.
Features:
- Hi-Resolution certification, double tweeter with fmax technology;
- Woofers and midrange drivers with cast baskets and aluminum/ceramic diaphragms;
- 3-way design with rear-firing bass reflex port;
- Optimization using Klippel laser equipment;
- Ventilated voice coil for stable performance at any volume;
- Special feet at the bottom of the speaker.
These speakers are designed using a unique three-way scheme. Below 2800 Hz, a dedicated long-throw midrange/woofer FE-Dynamics driver with a reinforced paper diaphragm operates. Its 170 mm diameter guarantees operation from 31 Hz - perhaps a record for speakers of this size and price. From 2800 to 17500 Hz, a 30 mm soft dome Fmax tweeter works (with atypical extra-long excursion, greatly expanding the directivity pattern), and even higher (from 17500 to 53000 Hz) it is assisted by a 19 mm super tweeter Fmax. All drivers feature a Klippel-optimized design with very powerful neodymium magnet systems, ventilated voice coils, and cast baskets. The crossovers are optimized in both amplitude and phase with a fourth-order filter with a 24 dB per octave slope.
As a result, the phase-inverted system covers a range from 31 to 54000 Hz and has a sensitivity of 91 dB with nominal impedance from 4 to 8 Ohms. Magnat Signature 703 can handle up to 110 W of power (peaking at 180 W), and the recommended amplifier should output at least 30 W per channel (single-ended tubes are not suitable here). The speakers' wide directivity pattern and unusually high upper frequency limit have allowed them to receive the prestigious Hi-Res Seal certification from the Japan Audio Society.
Magnat Signature 703 speakers come in solid enclosures measuring 210 x 372 x 305 mm, with each speaker weighing 7.7 kg. The front panel features a special design to improve dispersion and reduce resonances. The design of the high-frequency block is made of a sound-absorbing material. The cabinets are constructed using rigid E1-MDF boards, and the Airflex ports mounted on the top of the rear walls are designed to minimize eddy currents. The built-in rubber feet provide additional isolation from the installation surface - however, these speakers are best placed on dedicated stands and isolated from them with spikes. The removable grilles and high-quality gold-plated terminals for Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping connections.
