The Magnat MC 200 Network CD player is an improved version of the previous model, the Magnat MC100. Changes include the ability to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or cable, and the addition of Play-Fi technology. This allows for streaming audio using the Magnat Audio Stream app to the amplifier.
The Magnat MC-200 mini system may look cute at first glance and may seem unassuming. However, this impression is wrong. Hidden in its miniature size is a true monster built to High End standards. Inside is a fully discrete Class AB amplifier with 35 Watts per channel. As a result, the sound of the Magnat MC 200 has become more open and impactful, easily handling even compact floor-standing speakers. The main signal source in the system is the CD drive, with a narrow loading tray located under a large and informative two-line display. The transport is optimized for playing CD-Audio discs (it also supports playback of MP3 and WMA files on CD-R/RW), ensuring accurate sound reproduction. Another built-in music source in the Magnat MC-200 is a high-quality AM/FM/DAB tuner with auto-tuning and memory for 40 stations.
On the front panel of the new model, even the "computer" attribute of a USB input has disappeared. It is not present on the back either. Developers considered that the function of playing audio files from flash drives or iPods is not as in demand today as wireless Bluetooth connection. Therefore, the USB interface was removed and replaced with a Bluetooth module that supports aptX technology.
Connecting other sources is done using two analog and two digital inputs - coaxial and optical. For TV set-top boxes and TV panels, the latter option is optimal as a TOSLink connection does not create galvanic coupling and thus does not transfer digital interference from processors, hard drives, and power supplies to the sensitive audio components. However, the engineers preferred DSP over traditional analog volume and tone controls. Today, this is a justified decision since digital audio processing, including frequency correction and level adjustments, has significantly advanced even in inexpensive chips with 192 kHz/32-bit resolution, resulting in no noticeable degradation of sound quality as in the past. Therefore, the Magnat MC 200 can be considered a device based on a digital platform, with only the linear input, subwoofer output, built-in FM tuner, and power amplifier being analog.
The front panel of the Magnat MC 200 is made of anodized aluminum and is not overloaded with buttons. The player tray, small display, power button, volume knob, and 6.3 mm connector are all in place. Source selection is controlled by a small button on the left side. The knob on the right side is used for track selection, choosing preset radio stations, and adjusting the balance and treble/bass. On the rear panel are two analog inputs, one linear output for recording, and a separate subwoofer output. Digital interfaces are provided with optical and coaxial outputs. The width of the Magnat MC 200 CD receiver is 28 cm. Universal screw terminals are provided for connecting speakers, ensuring a reliable connection and minimal signal loss.
