Perkins Equalizer
To create the Perkins equalizer, Cal Perkins started with the topology of the Wien Bridge circuit – a highly musical design inspired by respected "British" consoles of the 60s and 70s. Essentially, this design forsakes frequency cutting or boosting in favor of a broader and more musical Q filter. After extensive experimentation, Perkins was able to identify capacitor and resistor values that would give the equalizer an additional 6 dB of control (±15 dB) without excessive narrowing of the filter bandwidth.
