To create the Perkins EQ, Cal Perkins started with the topology of the Wien Bridge circuit—a very musical design inspired by revered "British" consoles from the 60s and 70s. Essentially, this design eschews cutting or boosting frequencies in favor of a wider and more musical Q filter. After extensive experimentation, Perkins was able to determine capacitor and resistor values that would give the EQ an extra 6 dB of control (±15 dB) without excessive narrowing of filter bandwidth.
