The Mackie FreePlay LIVE is a two-way active acoustic system designed for outdoor performances and portable events. This device features a lithium battery that provides up to 15 hours of operation during active use. The model offers street and touring musicians everything they need to prepare for and successfully perform: convenient control and transportation, high-quality sound, and impressive output power.
The acoustic system includes a 6-inch woofer and two 2-inch tweeters that reproduce frequencies ranging from 77 Hz to 20 kHz. The built-in Class D amplifier provides a maximum power of 150 watts, while the continuous power of the device is 75 watts. The model has a 3-channel mixer that can receive signals from three inputs: two on Combo Jack / XLR connectors and one on a 1/8'' Jack TRS connector. The combo inputs allow for microphone, line, and instrument signals, and the AUX input allows for the use of external sound sources through cable connection or Bluetooth. Each channel is equipped with a 3-band equalizer that allows for frequency adjustment. There is also a reverb effect that helps enhance the sound. The reverb is activated by the RVB button on the control section of the device. Also located in this section is the EQ Mode button, which allows you to choose between two overall sound options: boosting low and high frequencies in Music EQ or attenuating low frequencies and boosting mid and high frequencies in Live EQ. As the name suggests, the first preset sounds more musical, while the second better captures a live sound. The device also features channel on/off buttons, a 6-segment volume indicator, and a Bluetooth power button.
You can adjust the 3-band equalizer, modify the reverb parameters, and control channel volume levels using the Free Play Connect app, which is available for free download on iTunes and Google Play. The smartphone and acoustic system connect via Bluetooth 4.2. On the back panel of the device, there is a balanced output on a 1/4'' Jack TRS connector, which can be used to connect additional speakers or a subwoofer. It is worth noting that the sound from this output is not processed by the equalizers and reverb, but rather goes directly from the input.
The Mackie FreePlay LIVE is an excellent acoustic system for outdoor concerts and performances in small venues, cafes, and clubs. Convenient control, long battery life, decent power, and high-quality sound make this model attractive to musicians. It also offers the ability to mount the acoustic system on any microphone stand using the included adapter.
