Description

The Mackie DL16S is a professional digital mixing console designed to be used as a live mixer with full remote control capabilities. With its USB interface, it allows for virtual sound checks, and its 3U rack-mountable form factor makes it easy to install in a rack module and take on the go for live events or tours.

The mixer features 16 analog channels, each equipped with a 4-band parametric equalizer, low-cut filter, gate, compressor, and spectrum analyzer. The compressor, gate, and equalizer have two modes of operation – modern and vintage. The 16 channels include 8 balanced inputs on XLR connectors, 6 balanced inputs on Combo Jack/XLR connectors, and 2 unbalanced Hi-Z inputs on Combo Jack/XLR. The latter two channels are capable of receiving high-voltage instrument signals, while the rest of the inputs only accept microphone and line signals. All inputs are equipped with Onyx+ preamps, the sound and character of which can be adjusted. The DSP processor offers a variety of processing effects such as reverb, echo, modulation, and more. There are 4 stereo buses available for effects routing.

The outputs are provided through 8 XLR connectors, which can be grouped into 13 output channels, including 6 aux sends, 6 subgroups, and 1 stereo master bus. Each bus has a built-in 4-band parametric equalizer, low and high-cut filters, as well as a 31-band graphic equalizer. It is possible to create up to 6 VCA groups and 6 Mute groups, which simplifies routing and allows for control of multiple channels with a single action. Each channel can also be assigned external audio playback from remote control software. It is possible to record on a per-channel basis in real-time and conduct virtual sound checks. The mixer can be connected to a computer via USB-B for recording and playback with 16 inputs and 16 outputs. A headphone output is available on a 1/4'' Jack TRS connector.

The mixer's functions can be controlled using the Master Fader software, which is available on Windows 10, macOS 10.2 and above, as well as iOS 10 and Android 6 smartphones and tablets. This software allows for saving and quick recalling of presets, setting up routing, adjusting effects, and more. Device connectivity is achieved through an Ethernet port, and the mixer also supports Wi-Fi with its built-in router. Data transmission is in the 24-bit/48kHz format.

The Mackie DL16S is a highly versatile mixer that can be equally useful in live and studio environments. Full remote control, a wide range of DSP effects, flexible grouping and routing options make this device very convenient for professional sound engineers. Its 3U rack-mountable form factor allows for easy installation in a rack. Additionally, it can be placed directly on a table or mounted on its side if space is limited, with rubber protective corners acting as legs.
