Solar Power is the third studio album by New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde, released on 20 August 2021 through Universal Records. Lorde wrote and produced the album with American musician Jack Antonoff, with whom she also worked on her second studio album, Melodrama (2017). She forewent compact discs for environmental reasons, releasing Solar Power on digital music platforms, streaming services, and as vinyl.
Lorde has called Solar Power her "weed album", in that Solar Power is an indie-folk album that borders on psychedelic rock. Based around acoustic guitar arrangements, the album marks a departure from the synthesizer-driven, dance-oriented music of her previous work. The lyrics focus largely on Lorde's leisure time in her home country of New Zealand, while simultaneously expressing her disdain for fame and celebrity culture. The album received mixed reviews from music critics, who applauded Lorde's mature vocals but were divided on the songwriting: some reviewers praised the laid-back production and insightful themes, while others found her sound unfinished and her lyrics lacking passion.
