The NEO Stream is the second device in the NEO series, iFi's mid-range product line for home use, positioned between the ZEN and Pro series. The name "NEO" was chosen because the first device in the series, NEO iDSD, had a completely new design and several features that were new for its product category. The NEO Stream chassis, the size of a desktop computer, and its aluminum casing are clearly reminiscent of the NEO iDSD.
Open-source Architecture
Many audio streaming devices tie users to a specific platform. iFi has developed its own streaming engine, specifically designed to provide flexibility and performance. Its open-source architecture, built on a quad-core ARM Cortex processor and a Linux-based operating system, allows it to evolve with modern trends without tying users to a specific platform.
Support for Roon and DLNA Network Services
The NEO Stream is Roon Ready certified, which means it is ready to be integrated into the Roon audio environment and work seamlessly with Roon software. Any DLNA/UPnP-compatible streaming app (such as BubbleUPnP, mconnect, Audirvana, etc.) can be used to control the NEO Stream and access audio content from DLNA-certified online services and network storage devices.
Tidal and Spotify Connect Streaming Services
Users of these popular online music services can stream directly from the Tidal and Spotify apps. Built-in Airplay support enables convenient streaming from Apple devices. The NEO Stream can also function as a Network Audio Adapter (NAA) in combination with Sygnalist HQPlayer software. This means it can direct audio data packets received via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable directly to the connected DAC without any software processing.
Stream-iFi App
The iFi "Stream-iFi" app is a simple tool for initial setup of the NEO Stream and initiating streaming from local storage devices.
Connection Options
The NEO Stream can be used in two ways: connected to an amplifier and speakers via the built-in DAC using the analog outputs, or connected to an external DAC via one of the available digital outputs. In the latter mode, the NEO Stream acts as a streaming transport or network bridge, similar to the ZEN Stream but with higher sound quality.
Hi-Res Audio Capabilities
Whether the built-in DAC is engaged or not, the NEO Stream's support for Hi-Res audio covers PCM data up to 32-bit/768 kHz, native DSD512, and DXD. Playback is possible not only through LAN and USB inputs but also through wireless Wi-Fi.
Optical Connection and Networking
The NEO Stream includes a unique feature alongside the RJ45 and M12 ports - an optical LAN. This is iFi's proprietary technology, which works by connecting the OptiBox transceiver to the router and the NEO Stream to the OptiBox via an optical cable. The data transfer rate reaches 10 Gbps. Both the OptiBox and cable are included with the NEO Stream.
