Not everyone knows about DACs, but they are present in every device that serves as a source of digital audio. Smartphones, computers, televisions, music systems - all of them require a DAC scheme to convert digital audio data into an analog signal, which is then amplified to drive speaker diaphragms (or headphones) and generate sound waves.
Features:
- ES9219MQ/Q ESS DAC;
- Supports PCM formats up to 32-bit/384kHz, DSD256, and MQA;
- Built-in equalizer with preset modes;
- Power Match function;
- Output power of 211mW at 32 ohms;
- Audiophile components from TDK, Murata, Taiyo Yuden;
- Signature design.
The iFi Audio Uno is a portable digital-to-analog converter, also capable of functioning as a headphone amplifier. This device is for people who may not know what a DAC is, but know they want the best sound quality when listening to music, watching movies and TV shows, playing games, and enjoying other forms of audio and video content, such as podcasts on YouTube.
The device's design follows the familiar key design of the company's products - a streamlined chassis made of textured polymer with aluminum front and back panels. In the center of the front panel is a volume control knob, with a 3.5mm headphone jack on the right. On the left side, there is a button for switching equalizer settings and activating the Power Match system, which ensures optimal compatibility with connected headphones. Active speakers can be connected to the RCA output on the back.
ES9219 DAC with MQA support The DAC module is built using the ES9219MQ/Q chip from ESS Sabre. Combined with Quad DAC+ technology (which passes audio signals through each of its sub-DACs to improve noise characteristics) and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator (a technology to eliminate digital signal distortions), as well as a special clocking system from iFi that utilizes a specialized quartz generator, it provides extremely low distortions, excellent clarity, and an impressive dynamic range. High-quality components like ceramic capacitors from TDK and inductor coils from Taiyo Yuden and Murata are used in the signal paths. The device supports PCM 32-bit/384kHz, native DSD256, and MQA formats.
Power Match function The Power Match function increases the gain coefficient by 6dB for headphones that are more challenging to drive. The amplifier provides an output power of 211mW at 32 ohms and a maximum output voltage of 3.5V at 600 ohms.
EQ - preset equalizer profiles Equalizer settings enhance dialogue clarity in "Cinema" mode and boost transparency and detail in the low-frequency range in "Gaming" mode. The "Music" mode provides neutral playback without coloration across the entire frequency range.
Design The device is made in the signature style using aluminum and polymer and has a recognizable Air Force Blue color. Part of the polymer body has a textured surface to prevent slipping. The volume control knob is surrounded by a LED ring that changes color when the incoming format or sampling frequency changes. The USB-C input can be connected to Windows PC, Apple Mac, smartphones, and tablets. It does not require an additional power source, receiving both power and audio data from the connected device.
Package includes:
- Portable DAC;
- USB-C cable;
- Documentation.
