Description

HiFiman EF400

The HiFiman EF400 is the latest desktop DAC/AMP on the market. This DAC/Amp is compact and reasonable in size, measuring 246.5mm long, 228mm wide, and 61mm tall. Despite its moderate size, it has a solid chassis that can support various items on top of it, such as a monitor or a laptop, although using a laptop is not recommended for heat dissipation reasons.

Key Features:

  • Full PCM decoding up to 24bit / 768kHz
  • Chipset: 2x HIMALAYA R2R DAC
  • Output power: up to 4400mW per channel
  • Outputs (headphones): 3.5mm TRS / 6.35mm TRS / 4.4mm Pentaconn / XLR 4 pins

Made entirely of aluminum, the HiFiman EF400 has a premium look and feel that makes it a standout piece in your setup. The device is complemented by large knobs on the front panel, four headphone outputs (two balanced + two single-ended), two line outputs (XLR + RCA), and two USB inputs - making it a pure DAC.

The HiFiman EF400 is a pure DAC with only USB-C and USB-A inputs, excluding Optical or Coaxial inputs. This minimalist design allows for versatility in file compatibility and streaming through one port.

Overall, the HiFiman EF400 boasts impressive specs that can rival top AKM/ESS/Texas-Instruments DACs, delivering a distinct sound signature only found in R2R chipsets.

For the power section, HiFiman has included a full-discrete circuit with large 30,000uF capacitors and a dual-channel architecture for optimal performance. The device can output a maximum of 10.7 Vrms on a 36ohm load, ensuring it can drive any headphone effortlessly.

Power output

This is the useful power developed by the amplifier in the load resistance. Amplifiers are usually characterized by the highest power that can be obtained at the output, provided that the distortion does not exceed the specified permissible value. This power is called the output power of the amplifier.
