The company Heritage Audio has announced single and dual channel tube compressors Herchild 660 and 670. Based on the design of the iconic Fairchild 660 and 670 models from the 1950s, the Herchild adds modern features such as side chain filter and direct access to continuous slope adjustment. If you have always dreamed of acquiring Fairchild hardware to complement your collection of rack modules, this is good news for you.
Features:
- Design of the iconic Fairchild 660 and 670 models from the 1950s;
- Herchild 670 is fitted with 22 tubes and 9 transformers operating at high voltage;
- All original control elements can be found on the front panel with six time settings, accurately reproducing attack and release times just like the originals;
- Continuous adjustment of the DC threshold (slope/ratio/knee) is now located on the front panel.
Herchild 670 is, of course, a two-channel 6U version derived from the Fairchild of the same name. Like the original, it consists of two interlinked 660s that can operate in stereo or mid/side configuration.
Heritage Audio claims that Herchild remains true to the original design in terms of response and sound. This results in a clean, transparent sound without annoying artifacts. Additionally, the device is capable of creating a heavy and dense effect with audio signal harmonics. The fact that the compressor, like the original, operates with a gradually developing ratio curve means that a fixed ratio cannot be set for the threshold, but there are four threshold curve options that can be set using a large rotary control labeled "DC Threshold".
The degree of compression is adjusted using the "AC Threshold" control. The attack and release times in Herchild 670 are adjustable using a stepped rotary potentiometer with 6 preset time constants. Position 1, for example, corresponds to an attack time of 0.2 ms and a release time of 0.3 seconds. The device also features a side chain filter with four frequency settings at 50 Hz, 100 Hz, 200 Hz, and 350 Hz, and offers four different operating modes: "IND" for individual operation of both channels,"LINK" for stereo operation, "LAT VERT" for mid-side (mid vertical channel, side signal of the lower channel) and "LAT VERT LINK" for linked mid-side operation.
Package includes:
- Compressor;
- Manual.
