The company Heritage Audio has announced the single-channel and dual-channel tube compressors Herchild 660 and 670. Based on the design of the iconic Fairchild 660 and 670 models from the 1950s, Herchild adds modern features such as side chain filter and direct access to continuous slope control. The model is equipped with 11 tubes and 5 transformers and operates at high voltage. The model produces a clean, transparent sound without artifacts, and can also create a more noticeable, heavy and dense effect with additional harmonics. The tubes are easily accessible on the rear panel of the device, making them easy to replace in case of failure.
Heritage Audio states that Herchild remains true to the original design in terms of response and sound. The manufacturer also claims that all six characteristic Attack/Release settings have been accurately reproduced. However, they have added a few features to make the compressor more versatile. In addition to the side chain high-pass filter with four switchable frequencies (50, 100, 200, 350 Hz), it offers direct access from the front panel to the DC threshold, which affects the ratio, knee, and curve.
Additionally, the manufacturer claims a frequency response from 40 Hz to 15 kHz, input impedance of 2 kOhm, output impedance of 600 Ohm, and a maximum output level of +30 dBu. Both devices are equipped with volume meters on the front panel, which can be adjusted to display gain reduction or valve balance using a selector switch. Herchild 660 is equipped with XLR line level input and output connectors.
