"The Now Now" is a 2018 studio album on black vinyl by the British band Gorillaz. The 11-song album was produced by Gorillaz in collaboration with James Ford and Remi Kabaka and recorded entirely at Studio 13 in London in February 2018.
During the recording sessions for The Now Now, the band largely forgoes guest appearances, relying primarily on the original creative team: the blue-haired and good-natured dreamer 2D on vocals, the witty Japanese hooligan Noodle on guitar, and, of course, Brooklyn philosopher and rhythm master Russell Hobbs on drums. With Murdoc Niccals temporarily unavailable, bass duties on the new album have been filled by former Gangreen Gang member Ace.
Gorillaz is a British virtual band created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The project encompasses an expansive fictional universe surrounding the "virtual band" itself, consisting of four animated members: 2D (lead vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar, drum machine), Noodle (guitar, melodica, vocals), and Russell Hobbs (drums, percussion). Their fictional universe is showcased on the band's website and in their music videos, as well as in a range of other media, such as short animated films. A book, Rise of the Ogre, was also written, containing biographies of the characters and some of the people working on Gorillaz. The music is a collaboration between various musicians, with Albarn serving as the sole constant contributor, drawing influences from genres such as alternative, rock, hip-hop, electronica, dub, and pop.
