The flagship Focal Sopra №3 is the highest floor-standing speaker in the pre-top line of Sopra. According to Focal, it provides a rich, harmonically saturated sound with excellent dynamics and an expanded soundstage.
Features:
- Phase inverted cabinet type, with the port built into the bottom of the cabinet
- Upper and lower parts of the cabinet made of MDF, with the top panel finished in glass
- 27mm tweeter with an inverted beryllium dome membrane, housed in a special intermediate module, IHL (Infinite Horn Loading) technology, metal protective grille
- 165mm midrange driver with a three-layer W-cone, TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) and NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) technologies, located in a separate chamber
- Two 210mm woofers with three-layer W-cones, NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) technology
- Recommended amplifier power from 40 to 400 Watts per channel
- Crossover frequencies at 250Hz/2200Hz
- 2 screw terminals for input connections
- Grilles with magnetic attachments
The speaker is equipped with two 210mm woofers, ensuring deep, well-articulated bass. Each driver features a W-cone consisting of a central layer of foamed material sandwiched between reinforcing layers of fiberglass on both sides, providing high rigidity, low mass, and excellent internal damping. The woofers utilize NIC technology to optimize the magnetic field around the voice coil, helping to reduce distortion and improve dynamics. The 165mm midrange driver, located in the upper part of the cabinet in a separate internal chamber, also uses NIC technology and a similar W-cone design. TMD technology is used in the suspension, with special mass dampers (ring thicknesses) to eliminate unwanted resonances caused by the movement of the W-cone.
The 27mm tweeter with a rigid, super-light concave beryllium dome is housed in a separate module made of durable thermoset polyurethane. Following the IHL technology, the module contains a rear horn-shaped chamber (so-called "infinite" horn) that absorbs waves emitted by the rear part of the dome. This helps to eliminate distortions, lower the resonance frequency, and achieve transparent, dynamic high frequencies with high resolution. The tweeter is protected by a metal grille. The rear part of the module is also covered by a metal grille.
The module not only serves to separate the midrange and woofer sections of the Focal Sopra №3 but also provides a precisely calculated tilt to the top of the cabinet. Thanks to the tilt, sound waves from different drivers reach the listening point virtually simultaneously (Focus Time technology). The phase inverter is located in the bottom of the cabinet, and the base is made of 19mm tempered glass with integrated adjustable stainless steel spikes. The 69mm thick front panel with a sandwich structure provides excellent damping. The non-parallel sides of the speaker help eliminate internal standing waves. This is also aided by small Helmholtz resonators installed in the lower part of the cabinet. A pair of screw terminals is used for cable connection.
The flagship Focal Sopra №3 can fill rooms up to 80 square meters and is available in natural wood veneer or gloss lacquer in various colors, including orange.
