The speaker is equipped with two 210mm bass drivers, ensuring deep, articulately superior bass. Each driver has a W-cone diffuser consisting of a central layer of foam material surrounded by reinforcing layers of fiberglass, providing high rigidity, low mass, and excellent internal damping. The bass drivers utilize NIC technology to optimize the magnetic field around the voice coil, reducing distortion and improving dynamics. The 165mm midrange driver, located in the upper part of the cabinet and housed in a separate internal chamber, also utilizes NIC technology and a similar W-cone diffuser design. TMD technology, with special mass dampers, is used in the midrange driver's suspension to eliminate unwanted resonances caused by W-cone movement.
A 27mm tweeter with a rigid, ultra-light concave beryllium dome is placed in a separate module made of durable thermolite polyurethane. Following the IHL technology, the module contains a rearward horn-shaped sound-absorbing chamber ("infinite" horn) to absorb waves emitted by the rear of the dome, reducing distortion, lowering the resonant frequency, and achieving transparent, dynamic high frequencies with high resolution. The tweeter is protected by a metal grille, and the rear of the module is also covered with a metal mesh grille.
The module not only separates the midrange and bass sections of the Focal Sopra No3 but also provides a precisely calculated tilt to the upper part of the cabinet. The tilt allows sound waves from different drivers to reach the listening point practically simultaneously (Focus Time technology). The phase inverter is located in the bottom of the cabinet, and the base is made of 19mm tempered glass with integrated adjustable stainless steel spikes. The front panel with a sandwich structure is 69mm thick and provides excellent damping. Non-parallel sides of the speaker help eliminate internal standing waves, aided by small Helmholtz resonators installed in the lower part of the cabinet. A pair of screw terminals is provided for cable connection.
The Focal Sopra No3 flagship speaker can cover areas up to 80 sq. m and is available in natural veneer or glossy lacquer in various colors, including orange.
