Focal Sopra No.3 Flagship Three-Way Speaker
The flagship Focal Sopra No.3 is the highest floor-standing speaker in the Sopra series, offering a rich, harmonically-saturated sound with excellent dynamics and an expansive soundstage according to Focal.
Features:
- Phased-inverted type enclosure, with the port built into the bottom of the enclosure.
- Top and bottom parts of the enclosure made of MDF, with the top panel finished in glass.
- 27mm tweeter with an inverted beryllium dome membrane, placed in a special intermediate module, IHL technology (Infinite Horn Loading), metal protective grille.
- 165mm midrange driver with three-layer W-cone, TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) and NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) technologies, placed in a separate chamber.
- Dual 210mm woofers with three-layer W-cones, NIC technology, recommended amplifier power from 40 to 400 watts per channel.
- Frequency separation points at 250Hz/2200Hz.
- 2 screw terminals for inputs.
- Grilles with magnetic attachments.
The speaker is equipped with two 210mm woofers, ensuring deep, articulately defined bass. Each driver is equipped with a W-cone, consisting of a central layer of foam material sandwiched between reinforcing layers of fiberglass on both sides, guaranteeing high rigidity, low mass, and excellent internal damping. The woofers use NIC technology to optimize the magnetic field around the voice coil, helping to combat distortions and improve dynamics. The 165mm midrange driver, located in the upper part of the enclosure and placed in a separate internal chamber, also uses NIC technology and a similar W-cone design. TMD technology is used in the suspension to eliminate unwanted resonances that occur during W-cone movement.
The 27mm tweeter with a rigid, ultra-lightweight concave beryllium dome is housed in a separate module made of durable thermolite polyurethane. Following the IHL technology, the module incorporates a rearward-firing horn-shaped chamber (the so-called "infinite" horn), which absorbs waves emitted from the back of the dome. This eliminates distortions, lowers the resonance frequency, and delivers transparent, dynamic high frequencies with high resolution. The tweeter is protected by a metal grille, and the back of the module is also covered by a metal grid.
The module not only separates the midrange and woofers in the Focal Sopra No.3 but also provides a precisely calculated tilt for the upper part of the enclosure. Thanks to the tilt, the sound waves from different drivers reach the listening position almost simultaneously (Focus Time technology). The phased-inverter is placed in the bottom of the enclosure, with the base made of 19mm tempered glass and integrated with adjustable stainless steel spikes. The front panel with sandwich structure is 69mm thick and offers excellent damping. The non-parallel sides of the speaker help eliminate internal standing waves, aided by small Helmholtz resonators installed in the bottom of the enclosure. A pair of screw terminals is provided for cable connection.
The flagship Focal Sopra No.3 can fill rooms up to 80 square meters and is available in natural veneer or glossy lacquer finishes in various colors, including orange.
