Sopra №2 - Modern Acoustic System
The Focal Sopra №2 is a contemporary acoustic system that perfectly combines dynamics, sound spatial organization, and harmonic richness. This 3-way floor-standing model takes the second position in the Sopra series, slightly smaller in size and bass driver caliber compared to the flagship of the line.
Features:
- Well-damped enclosure with Helmholtz resonators and integrated bottom port, thick sandwich front panel, tempered glass base
- 27mm tweeter with inverted beryllium dome housed in a polyurethane module using IHL technology
- 165mm midrange driver with W-cone and TMD/NIC technologies
- Pair of 180mm woofers with W-cones and NIC technology
- Lower frequency limit of 28 Hz (-6 dB)
- Minimum impedance of 3.1 ohms
- Recommended amplifier power from 40 to 300 watts per channel
- Crossover frequencies of 250 Hz/2200 Hz
- 2 screw terminals input
- Grilles with magnetic attachments
The Focal Sopra №2 acoustic system comes with a 27mm tweeter featuring an ultra-lightweight stiff dome coated with beryllium. The tweeter is housed in a module made of durable dampening material, thermolit polyurethane. The module includes a rear chamber shaped like a reverse horn (IHL technology) to absorb waves emitted from the backside of the dome membrane, minimizing distortions and resonant frequency. This guarantees clean sound with excellent dynamics and high resolution. A mini-grille protects the tweeter, and the module's rear is also covered with a metal grille.
Focal Sopra №2 utilizes a pair of 180mm woofers delivering dense, deep, and well-controlled bass. The woofers feature W-cones made of a special foamed material sandwiched between thin layers of fiberglass on both sides. This lightweight sandwich construction achieves high rigidity and improves internal dampening. The NIC technology stabilizes the magnetic field around the coil, enhancing dynamics and reducing distortions. In the slightly tilted upper part of the enclosure, a 165mm midrange driver with a similar W-cone design and NIC technology is integrated. The midrange suspension includes mass dampers (TMD technology) to eliminate parasitic resonances during membrane movement.
The tweeter-integrated module provides a slight forward tilt of the upper part of the speaker, while the lower part is slightly tilted backward. This layout ensures that waves from all drivers reach the listening position simultaneously (Focus Time technology). The thick 69mm front panel of the speaker has a sandwich structure for improved dampening. The non-parallel side panels and Helmholtz resonators at the bottom of the enclosure solve internal standing wave issues. The ported bass reflex is integrated into the base of the speaker and directed towards the tempered glass base with built-in adjustable stainless steel spikes.
Focal Sopra №2 speakers feature a modern and ergonomic design available in gloss lacquer or natural veneer. This model is ideal for rooms up to 30 sq.m but can easily handle spaces up to 70 sq.m.
