The FH7S model incorporates the best features of the FH9. The FH7S has a lighter body and a configuration of one dynamic driver and four balanced armature drivers. The low frequencies are reproduced by the FiiO-designed 13.6mm DLC second-generation driver. The mid frequencies are handled by the BA DFK drivers, co-developed by Knowles and FiiO, and the high frequencies are reproduced by the Knowles SWFK-31736 BA driver. The internal resonator design has been improved to enhance tuning systems and crossovers, resulting in a flat frequency response and improved high frequencies.
The FH7S uses FiiO's second-generation semi-open design. This design includes a balanced pressure relief system between the front and rear cavities of the housing. As a result, when the drivers push out air during sound reproduction, the air encounters less resistance, resulting in smoother and more detailed sound, natural tone, a larger soundstage, and precise soundstage imaging.
FiiO and Knowles have jointly created custom-tuned drivers for the FH7S, with the goal of achieving natural musical vocals by significantly improving the mid frequencies. Adjusting the air permeability of the mid-range drivers leads to a more natural, distinct, and smooth transition between the bass, mid, and high frequencies. Meanwhile, the vocals become clearer and more captivating, with the desired richness. The SWFK-31736 driver is responsible for the high frequencies, with its high resonant frequency. This driver contains richer high-frequency details, providing airiness and enlarging the soundstage.
The FH7S comes with three interchangeable filters, each with its own damping characteristics and filter variations for three different sound signatures:
- Enhanced bass
- Balanced sound
- Elevated high frequencies
The FH7S comes with a cable consisting of 8 conductors with 19 strands each, totaling 152 strands of individually insulated monocrystalline silver-plated copper. Compared to the FH7, the interchangeable audio plugs with a twist-lock mechanism make it easy to switch between the 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced connectors as needed.
The set of silicone ear tips included with the FH7S, known as FiiO HS18, is made from silicone material that is not only safe for the skin and durable but also has a thickness of only 0.4mm on the surface that comes into contact with the ears, providing greater comfort and seal.
