Description

Parlophone Records and ISO Records are delighted to share two exciting pieces of news about David Bowie. On November 26, 2021, "DAVID BOWIE 5. BRILLIANT ADVENTURE (1992-2001)" will be released, the fifth in a series of box sets spanning the artist's entire career, from the 1960s to the 21st century. And on January 7, 2022, on the eve of David's birthday, "Toy (Toy Box)" will finally receive its official release. The legendary unreleased album will be available as a vinyl box set of six 10-inch records.

The story of "Toy" began in 1999, when Bowie was preparing for a performance on VH1. David wanted to perform an early song, one released before "Space Oddity." He chose "Can't Help Thinking About Me," recorded in 1966, and played it for the first time in 30 years. The song was included in the setlist for the short promotional tour for the album "Hours...," and in early 2000, David and producer Mark Plati compiled a list of early Bowie songs for re-recording.

"Toy Box" will also include a set of 10-inch records with various alternate mixes and alternate versions of the songs. These include B-sides: David's debut single "Liza Jane" and the 1967 track "In The Heat Of The Morning," later mixed by Tony Visconti. The tracklist also includes a "Tibetan version" of "Silly Boy Blue," recorded at New York's Looking Glass Studios in 2001. At the time, Bowie was performing at the famous Tibet House benefit concert. The track features Philip Glass (piano) and Moby (guitar).

The third part of the set consists of special mixes—"acoustic and a little electric at the same time" ("Unplugged & Somewhat Slightly Electric"). The cover, designed by Bowie himself, also "captures a moment"—a collage of a childhood photo of the artist and his adult face. The set will also include a 16-page color book with previously unpublished photographs by Frank Ockenfels.
