Cayin N6iii is a versatile portable player (DAP) that adapts to your changing sound preferences. Its modular design allows you to easily change motherboards, each equipped with different configurations of DACs and amplifiers, allowing you to customize the sound to your liking. The reliable construction quality of the N6iii and the intuitive user interface based on Android 12 provide user convenience. With support for high-resolution audio formats and a powerful amplifier, it delivers exceptional sound quality with various headphones and IEMs.
Whether you prefer neutral, analytical sound or a warmer, more musical presentation, the customizable architecture of the N6iii makes the latest Cayin offering an attractive choice for audiophiles seeking flexibility and performance in one device.
The N6iii features a customized version of Android 12 with pre-installed Google Play services. Except for some additional settings and the Cayin Music Player app, the device functions like any phone or tablet based on Android. The N6iii uses a Snapdragon 665 SoC processor and 6 GB of RAM, making the interface quite fast and responsive. If you simply need a fast and easy-to-use premium-class portable player, the N6iii is an excellent choice.
For additional sound customization, the N6iii offers low, medium, and high gain modes, as well as customizable DAC filter settings and a system-wide parametric equalizer. Additionally, you get the Cayin player app as a reliable tool to manage your music collection and playback. It includes a graphic equalizer (unique to the player and not affecting other apps) and the ability to bypass Android's USB audio output restrictions for genuine high-resolution audio output.
Updated and Enhanced
The Cayin N6iii features a 5-inch full-screen display, larger than the 4.2-inch of the N6ii, yet remains compact and ergonomic for one-handed use. With no extended body parts and neatly placed playback buttons and volume knob below the screen, the N6iii combines improved visual effects with mobility. The curved side edges enhance grip, providing comfort despite the enlarged display, while maintaining the device's portability and elegant design. To enhance connectivity, the N6iii uses a semi-open antenna located under the top panel, providing better performance than the N6ii. Though the gain coefficient is slightly less than external antennas in the N7 or N8ii models, this design improves connection without increasing size.
Interchangeable Sound Motherboard
The N6iii model is equipped with a quick-release 3-point locking system for easy replacement of the sound motherboard without using tools, designed following the C9ii model. The Gen2 Audio motherboard, equipped with the latest Cayin audio technologies, has been increased in size to enhance performance but is not backward compatible with N6ii boards, striking a balance between innovation and portability. Each motherboard adapts the N6iii to unique listening preferences.
R202 Motherboard
The Cayin R202 motherboard is a high-performance audio module built on a fully discrete, fully balanced architecture with two DACs. It features both a 24-bit R-2R DAC and a discrete 1-bit DAC, each using ultra-precision thin-film resistors for built-in PCM and DSD decoding. The dual digital audio processor supports PCM frequencies up to 768 kHz and DSD512 with intelligent triple decoding modes - automatically selecting the best DAC architecture for the input format.
The motherboard also includes a four-channel fully balanced headphone amplifier built with high-quality op-amps and INA1620 drivers, providing dynamic, transparent sound. Power is supplied from a clean power source with matrix structure and LDO regulators with ultra-low noise, ensuring a quiet and stable signal path. While the R-2R mode delivers rich and smooth sound, the 1-bit mode provides more natural visualization with a clear soundstage.
Four-Channel Fully Balanced Headphone Amplifier
The amplifier section, built on a fully balanced DAC architecture, uses six OPA1612 and OPA1662 op-amps to form a fully symmetrical differential signal chain. Four INA1620 op-amps form a four-channel balanced headphone amplifier with two internal channels connected in parallel to each chip. This provides full differential amplification of analog audio signals, ensuring precise reproduction of details and exceptional dynamic response.
Clean Power Source with Matrix Structure
The headphone amplifier features a high-performance bipolar amplifier based on the LT8582, providing super-clean power with pulse suppression at microvolt level through LC filtering, significantly improving load dynamics. The DAC and op-amps are powered by a matrix formed from TPS61087 and TPS61240 converters, followed by 7 LDO regulators with ultra-low noise, independently powering the digital, analog, and clock parts. This minimizes noise density and lays a solid foundation for high-quality sound reproduction.
Output Power
On the 3.5mm unbalanced output, at 32 Ohm load, the player delivers 250mW. On the 4.4mm balanced output, at 32 Ohm load, the player is capable of delivering 550mW. The maximum signal-to-noise ratio on both outputs is 117 dB.
Four-Channel Precision Analog Volume Regulator
It uses a fully balanced volume adjustment chip JRC NJW1195, providing a 256-step adjustment with 0.5 dB steps. Careful analysis of parameters and acoustic matching has resulted in 100 carefully selected main levels, providing low distortion and superior channel balance across the entire adjustment range, ensuring clean sound quality with precise and efficient volume control.
Within the limited space on the PCB, the architecture of a special audio circuit, optimized for direct load control using fully balanced signal transmission and amplification, is carefully designed. The R202 is equipped with only a PO (Phone Out) output, without an LO (Line Out) function - this is a constructive choice made to preserve the purity and focus of the sound output.
