Bowers & Wilkins DB4S Subwoofer
The Bowers & Wilkins DB4S model is the most compact subwoofer in the DB series, making it perfect for building a high-class home theater or stereo system in a small room. Despite its relatively modest size, this "little one" is capable of providing confident, dense, and deep bass.
The active Bowers & Wilkins DB4S subwoofer is enclosed in a sealed cabinet and features a 10-inch driver with an Aerofoil diaphragm, as well as a 1000W Class D amplifier. The subwoofer is equipped with a digital preamplifier with a dynamic equalizer, controlled via an app, and operates in a frequency range from 10 to 350 Hz. The finish of the subwoofer is available in the same options as the entire 700 S2 series of speakers.
To control the Bowers & Wilkins DB4S, a special mobile app is used. It completely replaces any control buttons, and even the display on the B&W DB4S. To use the subwoofer, you need to install the DB Subwoofer Bluetooth app on your smartphone (for iOS or Android).
The app allows you to select the input (RCA or XLR) and connection type (Stereo or LFE). You can also adjust the input signal gain, its equalization (flat, music, movie, or custom), control stereo settings, and automatic power-on mode. It even includes automatic sound parameter correction based on the room acoustics, using the microphone built into the smartphone. In this case, the subwoofer generates a test signal, and the smartphone needs to be sequentially placed in seven points in the room.
The Bowers & Wilkins DB4S is equipped with two RCA and XLR inputs, two 12-volt trigger connectors, and an RS232 port for external control. Spikes or anti-vibration supports are provided for installing the subwoofer. The dimensions of the B&W DB4S are 360 x 377 x 368 mm, with a weight of 26 kg. The subwoofer complements the 700 Series speakers excellently because it uses similar lightweight and very rigid Aerofoil diaphragms. The Aerofoil cones have varying thickness, providing increased strength in critical areas. As a result, smooth piston movement of the membrane is guaranteed, which, according to the manufacturer, can resist bending and deformations much longer than ordinary speaker diaphragms. The B&W DB4S subwoofer also pairs well with other speakers, such as the CM series.
