The new Series 700 continues Bowers & Wilkins' policy of incorporating concepts and technologies inherited from their flagship line. Nearly every element of the new series has been transformed through extensive research over three years, from the construction of cabinets and drivers to finishes and key acoustic and mechanical improvements.
Beautiful Design, Premium Details
For the first time in the Series 700, slimmer cabinets with smoothly curved front panels and drivers installed in external "capsules" have been introduced in the new lineup. This visually and technically parallels the 800 Diamond Series, reducing the impact of the front panel on sound quality and allowing the new series to acoustically "disappear," letting you focus solely on the music.
The new cabinet shapes are not only more elegant than before but also come in a new Mocha finish, complementing the updated proportions and premium details of the new Series 700 speaker cabinets. Mocha joins the previously offered Gloss Black and Satin White finishes, forming a three-component assortment for most markets worldwide.
Enhanced Drivers, New Acoustic Forms
Taking a significant step forward in acoustic characteristics, Bowers & Wilkins now offers their iconic tweeter-in-a-huge-enclosure technology in four models of the new Series 700. The top-mounted tweeter is implemented in floorstanding speakers 702 S3 and 703 S3, as well as the stand-mount 705 S3 and center channel speaker HTM71 S3, enabling owners to create a full home theater system with top-mounted tweeter models.
The top-mounted tweeter's shape has also been completely reworked in the new lineup. The elongated tweeter enclosure, made from a single block of aluminum, has been significantly lengthened, reducing distortion and providing even cleaner sound. This elongated form is further improved with a two-point decoupling system, isolating the tweeter mechanically from the speaker cabinet for a more open soundstage.
Apart from these mechanical enhancements, the tweeter dome retains the characteristics of Bowers & Wilkins' Carbon Dome model with a first resonance frequency of 47 kHz, combined with improved vented voice coils and new magnets. Even models equipped with front-mounted tweeters – 707 S3, 706 S3, 704 S3, and HTM72 S3 – benefit from these changes, along with a significantly elongated loading tube to reduce distortions and deliver a cleaner sound.
Bionic Suspension
In all 3-way speaker systems of the new line, Bowers & Wilkins has introduced the revolutionary bionic suspension, first presented last year in the new 800 Diamond Series. Replacing traditional fabric centering washers, the bionic suspension significantly reduces unwanted noise in the midrange driver's operation.
When used with Bowers & Wilkins' patented technologies for midrange drivers, including vibration isolation for the entire midrange unit, an aluminum driver chassis with tuned mass dampers to reduce resonance, a fixed FST diaphragm suspension, as well as the renowned Continuum material, the result is simply astonishing clarity in mid-range sound.
Optimization for Sound Quality
To provide the best platform for these drivers' success, the new Series 700 features upgraded speaker terminals based on the 800 Series, with stronger contacts better suited for spade connectors. These audio signals reach carefully upgraded crossovers, continuing the use of audiophile Mundorf capacitors complemented by bypass capacitors. Heat sink radiators for the crossovers have also been improved for even cleaner sound.
All models in the lineup come with upgraded larger diameter bass reflex ports, offering greater bandwidth for a more expansive soundstage. The 703 S3 features super durable M6 spikes.
