Series 700 by Bowers & Wilkins

The Series 700 by Bowers & Wilkins consists of eight models: floor-standing, bookshelf, and center channel speakers, which are known for their exceptional sound quality and elegant design. The Series 700 incorporates cutting-edge technologies borrowed from our flagship Series 800 Diamond, trusted by many of the world's most famous recording studios. This new series brings studio-quality sound into your home with elegant, high-quality models that cater to any preference and suit any interior.

Features:

  • Curved front panel with protruding driver capsules
  • Top-mounted tweeter in a solid anodized casing with improved isolation
  • Continuum material diaphragm with FST suspension
  • Mechanical decoupling for midrange driver
  • Aerofoil-profile bass diaphragms
  • Downward-firing bass port
  • Enhanced base plate with 30mm metal feet and M10 stainless steel spikes
  • Upgraded terminal plate
  • Modernized magnetic systems, chassis, and crossovers
  • Amplifier power range: 30 to 300 watts
  • Bionic suspension

The new Series 700 continues Bowers & Wilkins' tradition of implementing concepts and technologies inherited from its flagship line. Through an extensive three-year research program, nearly every element of the new series has been transformed, from cabinet construction to drivers and finishes, along with key acoustic and mechanical enhancements.

Beautiful Design, Premium Details

For the first time in the Series 700, slimmer cabinets with smoothly curved front panels and drivers housed in external "capsules" have been introduced, forming a direct visual and technical parallel with the Series 800 Diamond line. This design significantly reduces the front panel's impact on sound quality, minimizing sound diffraction on the cabinet. As a result, the new series acoustically "disappears" better than ever, allowing you to focus solely on the music without any cabinet resonance.

The new cabinet shapes are not only more graceful than before, they are also available in a new Mocha finish, a beautiful wood with a grained pattern that complements the updated proportions and premium details of the Series 700 speakers. Mocha joins the previously offered Gloss Black and Satin White finishes, creating a three-component assortment for most markets worldwide.

Enhanced Drivers, New Acoustic Forms

Taking a significant step forward in acoustic characteristics, Bowers & Wilkins now offers its iconic top-mounted tweeter technology in a solid casing in four models of the new Series 700. Floor-standing speakers 702 S3 and 703 S3, as well as bookshelf speakers 705 S3 and center channel speaker HTM71 S3, are now equipped with the top-mounted tweeter. This allows owners to create a complete home theater system based on models with top-mounted tweeters in the 700 series for the first time.

The top-mounted tweeter's design has been completely redesigned in the new lineup. The solid aluminum tweeter enclosure in the 700 series has been significantly elongated to reduce distortion and provide even cleaner sound. This elongated design is further improved by the introduction of a two-point decoupling system, which better isolates the tweeter mechanically from the speaker cabinet, providing a freer and more open soundstage.

In addition to these mechanical improvements, the tweeter dome retains the characteristics of Bowers & Wilkins' Carbon Dome model with a first-resonance frequency of 47kHz, combined with improved vented voice coils and new magnets. Even models equipped with front-mounted tweeters - 707 S3, 706 S3, 704 S3, and HTM72 S3 - benefit from all these changes, along with a significantly elongated loading tube that, like the top-mounted tweeter, works to reduce distortion and provide cleaner sound.

Bionic Suspension

In all 3-way speakers in the new lineup, Bowers & Wilkins has introduced the revolutionary bionic suspension, first introduced last year in the new 800 Diamond Series. By replacing the standard fabric surround of the centering washer with a bionic one, unwanted noises during midrange driver operation have been significantly reduced.

When used in conjunction with all other patented Bowers & Wilkins technologies for midrange drivers, including vibration isolation for the entire midrange assembly, aluminum driver chassis with tuned mass dampers to reduce resonances, fixed FST diaphragm suspension, and, of course, the renowned Continuum material, the result is simply astonishing clarity in midrange sound.

Sound Quality Optimization

To provide the best platform for these drivers to succeed, the new Series 700 introduces modernized speaker terminals, based on the Series 800, with stronger contacts that are better suited for use with spade-type connectors. Audio signals then pass to meticulously modernized crossovers, which continue to utilize audiophile Mundorf capacitors, complemented by several bypass capacitors. Heat sink radiators for cooling the crossovers have also been improved to achieve an even cleaner sound.

All models in the lineup are equipped with upgraded larger diameter bass reflex ports, providing greater bandwidth for a more expansive and spatial sound. In the floor-standing 702 S3, this approach is taken one step further - even closer than ever to the Series 800 Diamond configuration - by reorienting the downward-facing port with the air outlet on the built-in base. The result is a solid and powerful speaker system that is easier than ever to place in your home. Finally, all floor-standing models are equipped with significantly improved spikes for floor mounting. The 702 S3 features ultra-durable M10 spikes.
