Bowers & Wilkins 600 S3 Series: Enhanced Sound Quality and Innovative Design
Bowers & Wilkins have introduced a new generation of the popular 600 S3 speaker series, building on three decades of experience in creating a reference standard for affordable yet high-quality audio systems. This is the eighth generation of one of the most well-known Hi-Fi lines, receiving the most extensive update in the history of the 600 Series.
Features:
- Type: Bookshelf speaker system;
- Driver type: Dynamic;
- Acoustic design: Monopolar;
- Frequency response: 52 Hz – 28 kHz;
- Sensitivity: 88 dB;
- Tweeter: 25mm titanium dome;
- Mid/Bass driver: 165mm Continuum cone.
The new titanium dome tweeter has improved resolution and refinement in sound quality. Bowers & Wilkins develops and produces all key components of their speaker systems in-house, gradually introducing innovative technologies over time. This approach is continued in the new models of the 600 S3 Series, featuring numerous enhancements across all aspects of their acoustic characteristics. Many of the new components have been borrowed from the 700 S3 Series and integrated into a redesigned and improved cabinet construction.
The most significant innovation in the 600 S3 Series is the titanium dome tweeter technology. Its design consists of two parts, with an ultra-thin, lightweight, yet rigid main dome measuring 25 microns in thickness, reinforced by a second titanium ring measuring 30 microns. This dual dome is placed in a significantly elongated loading tube system, inspired by the recently introduced 700 S3 Series.
The longer loading tube reduces the resonance frequency behind the dome and leads to a more open sound that is less affected by the cabinet housing the tweeter. Additionally, the new titanium dome is surrounded by a mounting plate similar to the tweeter in the 700 S3 Series, improving sound dispersion, and features a more open design of the tweeter grille borrowed from the 800 Signature Series. This combination of new technologies ensures the tweeter delivers smoother and more refined sound without compromising resolution or detail.
The signature Continuum cones from Bowers & Wilkins are still present in the design of the midrange and mid/bass drivers of the new 600 S3 Series, with the addition of more powerful magnetic systems from the 700 S3 Series with low distortion levels. The low-frequency drivers with paper cones in the floor-standing model 603 S3 are now also equipped with drives from the 703 S3. The crossovers have been updated with the inclusion of high-quality, modernized bypass capacitors from the 700 S3 Series, providing higher resolution and transparency of sound.
