The new Series 700 continues Bowers & Wilkins' policy of implementing concepts and technologies inherited from their flagship line. Extensive research over three years resulted in the transformation of nearly every element of the new series, from cabinet design, drivers, and finishes to key acoustic and mechanical enhancements.
Beautiful design, premium details
For the first time in the Series 700, the new lineup features sleeker cabinets with smoothly curved front panels and speakers mounted in external "capsules", creating a direct visual and technical parallel to the Series 800 Diamond line. This shape significantly reduces the front panel's impact on sound quality, minimizing sound diffraction on the cabinet so the new series practically "disappears" acoustically, allowing you to focus solely on the music without any cabinet resonances.
The improved cabinet shapes are not only more elegant than before, but also come in a new Mocha color finish, a beautiful wood with a grainy pattern that perfectly complements the updated proportions and premium details of the new Series 700 speaker cabinets. Mocha joins the previously offered Gloss Black and Satin White finishes, forming a three-component range for most markets worldwide.
Enhanced drivers, new acoustic forms
Taking a significant leap forward in acoustical characteristics, Bowers & Wilkins now offers their iconic tweeter technology in a massive solid enclosure in four models of the new Series 700, accounting for half of the entire lineup.
In addition to these mechanical improvements, the tweeter dome retains the properties of Bowers & Wilkins' Carbon Dome model with a first resonance frequency of 47 kHz, in combination with improved vented voice coils and new magnets. Even models with front-panel tweeters - 707 S3, 706 S3, 704 S3, and HTM72 S3 - benefit from all these changes, along with a significantly lengthened loading tube that, like the top tweeter, works to reduce distortions and deliver cleaner sound.
Bionics suspension
In all 3-way speaker systems of the new series, Bowers & Wilkins has introduced the revolutionary Bionics suspension first introduced last year in the Series 800 Diamond. By replacing the traditional fabric centering ring with a bionics suspension, unwanted noises during midrange driver operation have been significantly reduced.
When combined with all the other patented technologies of Bowers & Wilkins in midrange drivers, including the vibration isolation for the entire midrange unit, aluminum driver chassis with tuned mass dampers to reduce resonances, fixed FST diaphragm suspension, and of course, the renowned Continuum material, we achieve simply stunning clarity of sound on mid-range frequencies.
Sound quality optimization
To provide these drivers with the best platform for success, the new Series 700 features upgraded speaker terminals based on the Series 800, with stronger contacts better suited for use with spade connectors. Audio signals then go to meticulously modernized crossovers, which, like before, continue to utilize audiophile Mundorf capacitors supplemented with multiple bypass capacitors. Heat sinks to dissipate heat from the crossovers have also been improved to achieve even cleaner sound.
All models in the lineup are equipped with upgraded larger diameter ported bass reflex ports, providing a more significant bandwidth, delivering a more expansive and spatial sound. The 704 S3 comes with ultra-durable M6 spikes.
Package includes:
- 2 floorstanding speakers
- Documentation.
