Extensive research over a three-year program has transformed nearly every element of the new series, from cabinet construction, drivers, and finishes to key acoustic and mechanical improvements.
Beautiful Design, Premium Details
For the first time in the Series 700, the new lineup features slimmer cabinets with smoothly curved front panels and drivers housed in external "capsules", creating a direct visual and technical parallel with the Series 800 Diamond line. This new form significantly reduces the impact of the front panel on sound quality, minimizing sound diffraction effects on the cabinet. As a result, the new series acoustically "disappears" better than ever, allowing you to focus solely on the music without distractions from the speaker cabinet resonance.
The new cabinet shapes are not only more graceful than before, but are also offered in a new Mocha color finish, a beautiful wood grain that complements the updated proportions and premium details of the new Series 700 speaker cabinets. Mocha joins the previously offered Gloss Black and Satin White finishes to form a three-component range for most markets worldwide.
Enhanced Drivers, New Acoustic Forms
Taking a significant step forward in acoustic performance, Bowers & Wilkins now offers its iconic tweeter technology in a massive concertinaed enclosure in four models of the new Series 700, comprising half of the entire lineup.
In addition to these mechanical improvements, the tweeter dome retains the characteristics of the Bowers & Wilkins Carbon Dome model with a 47 kHz first resonance frequency, combined with enhanced vented voice coils and new magnets. Even models equipped with front panel tweeters - 707 S3, 706 S3, 704 S3, and HTM72 S3 - also benefit from these changes, along with a significantly extended loading tube that works to reduce distortions and provide cleaner sound.
Bionic Suspension
Bowers & Wilkins has introduced the revolutionary bionic suspension in all 3-way speaker systems of the new Series 700, first introduced last year in the Series 800 Diamond. Replacing the conventional fabric centering washer with a bionic one has significantly reduced unwanted noise from the midrange driver.
Along with all other patented Bowers & Wilkins technologies in the midrange drivers, including vibration isolation for the entire midrange unit, an aluminum driver chassis with tuned mass dampers to reduce resonances, fixed FST diaphragm suspensions, and the renowned Continuum material, this results in astonishing clarity in sound reproduction at mid-range frequencies.
Sound Quality Optimization
To provide these drivers with the best platform for success, the new Series 700 features upgraded column terminals based on the Series 800, with stronger contacts better suited for use with spade connectors. Audio signals pass through to carefully upgraded crossovers, which continue to use audiophile Mundorf capacitors supplemented by bypass capacitors. Heat sink radiators for the crossover have also been improved for even cleaner sound.
All models in the lineup are equipped with upgraded larger diameter phase inverter ports, providing greater capacity and delivering a more expansive and spatial sound. The 704 S3 includes ultra-durable M6 spikes.
