The innovative membrane in the X2 series is designed to achieve maximum stiffness and minimal noise level. To achieve these unparalleled characteristics, all components were designed, developed, and assembled in-house. The X2 membrane consists of three layers laminated into one: two layers of dispersed carbon fiber with an aramid honeycomb layer in between.
This unique material composition gives the membrane unique properties. The dispersed carbon fiber provides optimal stiffness, reducing destructive sound vibrations and resonances to an unprecedented level. The aramid honeycomb has the best stiffness-to-weight ratio in the vertical direction. In the X2 series' magnetic motor, a double copper jacket is used on pole pieces to achieve a high flux and low inductance. This technology was borrowed from the Børresen Z series. Reducing inductance reduces the amplifier load. To ensure high efficiency, the X2 series is equipped with two pole rings, and any flux losses are compensated by a larger magnet.
The tweeter chosen for the Børresen X2 series uses the same basic design as in all other Børresen speaker series. However, thanks to an extremely efficient design, the magnet and iron mass were reduced. This led to only a slight decrease in efficiency from a remarkable 94 dB to 90 dB, which is still outstanding efficiency for a tweeter. High frequencies operate around 2.5 kHz and above. Due to an extremely low moving mass of just 0.01 grams, the tweeter can respond incredibly quickly. High durability allows for working with very sharp transient processes, without causing muted tones.
The Børresen X2 series is equipped with a parallel crossover filter using the same premium components as the Z series. The result is a very mechanically stable crossover filter that minimizes self-resonance.
The surface of the cabinet is elegantly finished with black grand piano lacquer and reinforced with carbon fiber inserts. The cabinet is made of a durable composite wood material that eliminates sound distortions and reduces mechanical impacts, including hysteresis. This construction ensures excellent sound reproduction.
The X2 series is equipped with phase inverter ports, and the tweeter is ventilated to compensate for air pressure increases. The bass section contains tuned ports calibrated to musically significant frequencies.
