The Austrian Audio OC818 Studio Set, developed by a team of former AKG employees, is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone with multiple patterns. It includes the OC818 studio condenser microphone with a large diaphragm, a traditional microphone clip, a windscreen to reduce noise from breathing and gusts of air, and a protective carrying case. The handcrafted 1-inch ceramic capsule features two polymer diaphragms with a gold coating, allowing for various polar patterns. With the 5-position switch, the OC818 can be set to figure 8, hypercardioid, cardioid, omnidirectional, or wide cardioid. Each diaphragm is connected to a separate output connector for dual-channel recording, enabling customization of polar patterns in five frequency ranges with the optional PolarDesigner module or creating a stereo image with adjustable settings using the StereoCreator module (both with open-source code).
Alternatively, an additional output can be connected to the OCR8 Bluetooth module for convenient wireless control and selection of 255 polar patterns using the free PolarPilot app for iOS/Android. Front panel switches provide easy access to pad and volume level settings. Set the pad to -10 or -20 dB to avoid distortion when recording loud sound sources such as drums or guitar cabinets. Activate the high-pass filter at 40, 80, or 160 Hz to eliminate low-frequency noise, including rumble and proximity effects. The OC818 housing is made of a zinc-aluminum alloy for durability.
Directional Options:
5-position polar pattern switch for selecting figure 8, hypercardioid, cardioid (dual cardioid mode with secondary output), omnidirectional, and "preset mode" (default wide cardioid, customizable with the free PolarPilot app and optional OCR8 Bluetooth key for PolarPilot control).
For stable microphone mounting, the set includes a metal and plastic OCH8 holder and an OCS8 shock mount with adjustable angle for precise microphone positioning. The gray acoustic foam OCW8 windscreen protects capsules from moisture and dirt. The 1.2-meter XLR cable adapter comes with black plastic clips. All components are supplied in an aluminum case with an internal molded foam insert.
